THE OPPORTUNITY

THIS IS A PRN POSITION.  The Medical Assistant is an important part of our team!  The role assists providers in the examination and treatment of patients following established standards and practices, as directed by physician.  If you are ready to help drive healthcare innovation as part of a winning team, then we want to hear from you!

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet patients in waiting area, assure patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently, escort patients to discharge counter.
  • Obtain patient history; assess/triage patient, vital signs and record information on chart.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Explain treatment procedures and prepare patient and exam room for examination.
  • Position instruments and equipment and hand to physician as directed.  Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use.
  • Administer injections, dispense medications, eye and ear irrigations, dress/bandage wound and incisions, start/monitor IV, draw blood and assist physician with any/all procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiograph, defibrillator, cardiac monitor, oxygen equipment, pulse ox, peak flow and inhalation treatment equipment.
  • Perform CLIA-waived lab tests, draw blood and collect, label and process specimens for send-out.
  • Perform dosage calculations for administering medications.
  • Remove sutures/staples and change sterile and nonsterile dressings.
  • Complete medical chart to include medical services rendered, test results and supplies used.
  • Perform patient call backs, arrange referrals and testing and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Monitor disposable inventory and place orders for medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
  • Perform quality checks on medical equipment.
  • Assist registration staff and perform additional clerical duties as necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program with a valid MA school certificate or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMR)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of medical office or urgent care experience preferred
  • Possess a current CPR certificate or ability to obtain within 90 (ninety) days of employment.
  • IV Certified - preferable.
  • Medical terminology knowledge.
  • Pharmacology:  Basic knowledge of drugs, solutions, toxic effects of drug use, legal regulations and standard inventory, dosage, prescriptions, and emergency drugs.
  • Phlebotomy:  Knowledge of various collection methods and testing such as bleeding times, collecting donor blood, bedside testing and preparing specimens.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and Biohazard guidelines.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA.
  • Minimum of two (2) years medical assisting experience.
  • Ability to accurately read and write medical terminology.
  • Ability to work all shifts including day, evening and weekend hours, as needed.
  • Ability to escort or transport patient by wheelchair or stretcher when appropriate.
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • Types 25 words per minute with 96% accuracy.
  • Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must be consistent, punctual and reliable in their daily work schedule.
